After more than 20 years designing logos and visual identities for Scottish businesses, we’ve seen a lot of changes.
Design trends have come and gone. Technology has transformed how logos are created.
But while the tools have evolved, the principles behind good logo design haven’t.
A good logo needs to be distinctive enough to be remembered, flexible enough to work everywhere, and appropriate for the business it represents.
It needs to be distinctive enough to be remembered, flexible enough to work everywhere, and appropriate for the business it represents.
And it needs to survive beyond the screen.
We’ve designed identities that have appeared on everything from websites and business cards to brochures, packaging, vehicles, signage and exhibition graphics.
That’s one of the things we’ve learned over the years:
A logo isn’t the brand. It’s the foundation the brand is built on.
While fashions change, the fundamentals don’t:
• Know who you’re trying to reach.
• Give the brand a clear personality.
• Create something distinctive—not just on-trend.
• Make sure it works just as well in print as it does on screen.
• Above all, make sure it belongs to your business.
At G3 Creative, we’ve had the privilege of creating identities for start-ups, independent businesses, charities, tourism organisations and established Scottish institutions.
Looking back through some of the logos we’ve created over the years, it’s interesting to see how much design has changed—and how much hasn’t.
Good design still has to stand the test of time.
That’s something worth remembering when you’re creating a brand from scratch.
